Art Residence

I met the home owners at an art fair that they host every year. We started talking art. They wanted us to help them curate their extensive art collection around their home, and bringing in eclectic pieces of furniture that complements their art. I spent several days studying their art, which included works of masters from the mid century. It was a very exciting opportunity for us.

Furniture Selection

We brought in furniture pieces also designed by masters, ( such as the Gilda Chairs by the iconic Carlo Mollino, and another one by Gio Pointi) We also brought in sculptural light pieces to complete the entire space. It was overwhelming to see how the space came together with conversations between masters of the midcentury era.

Art Curation & Placement

A large wall was dedicated to the master artists, such as Ram Kumar and Kishan Khanna. Set along side their works is an old bench that clients had bought many years ago from Tamil Nadu; and Chandigarh Chairs by Pierre Jeanneret.  A 250 year old grand piano from Stockholm proudly owns a space along this wall.

I think the challenge and also the excitement for us was to learn about each art work, the artist, story being the particular work, and juxtapose them together into an interesting story.

More about the project

The site was/ is a beautiful home about 30 years old, with a huge garden and plenty of natural light. We opened up some of the spaces by breaking down walls, but retained all of its beautiful characters, like the wood carved ceilings.

It was fun how we brought together works from various eras, of different compositions, indian and global, of various mediums. We also had a beautiful 250 year old grand piano from Stockholm that we placed close to the entrance.

Colour palette of the spaces were very neutral, shades of beige and greys, to form a perfectly elegant backdrop to the art.

One of the things we love doing is explore how we can bring together a little bit of old and new in any small form, in all of our projects. So it was like a dream for us when we got this opportunity of literally doing just that, in a beautiful old house with a lot of thoughtfully details Architectural spaces.
